Denise Gold, Hearing Specialist Travels Halfway Around the World to Provide Hearing Care for In-Need Children and Adults in Remote Island Community
Denise Gold, Hearing Specialist and Owner of Better Hearing Care in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, recently demonstrated that her compassion knows no boundaries when it comes to caring for the needs of people with hearing loss. Denise joined more than 180 h e a r I n g care professionals from the United States attending the 2016 OtiCongress conference in a unique humanitarian mission to remote, rural communities on the tropical island of Fiji.
The volunteer team worked with the staff of Project H.E.A.V.E.N., a Charitable Trust Organization that aims to ensure access to hearing health care for the island republic’s under-served populations. In a series of daily clinics, the volunteers conducted hearing screenings and fit more than 160 hearing aids on local children and adults. The Oticon Hearing Foundation donated the hearing aids and an array of audiological equipment that will enable Project H.E.A.V.E.N. staff to provide ongoing hearing care for Fiji’s neediest populations.
Denise worked side-by-side with Project H.E.A.V.E.N. staff to ensure that each child and adult received individual care and attention. Project H.E.A.V.E.N. staff also served as interpreters for the volunteers but D e n I s e s a I d t he joy of the children and adults as they experienced a world of sound for the first time needed no interpretation.” Their happiness and gratitude made the experience a joyous one for us as well,” she reported.
